Laccophilus medialis is one the most widespread species of the genus in Thailand. A lentic species restricted to forested or shrubby areas. Not in paddy fields. In Thailand and Malaysia the species was collected from shallow and shaded, more forest pools and puddles in second growth (older rubber lowland forest. The bottom consists of mud and a thick layer of rotten leaves. The beetle occupies the very shallow zone just at the edge of the water bodies.
